Dr. Mottern received his PhD in Educational Psychology & Research from the University of Tennessee, MA in Human Services (Social/Psychological Services) from St. Edward’s University, and BA in English from Sam Houston State University.? He is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), Reality Therapy Certified (RTC), and Certified in Clinical Hypnosis (CH). ? He has worked at all levels of mental/behavioral health treatment (intensive residential, in-patient, partial hospitalization, out-patient, individual treatment) with both groups and individuals, children, and adults.? He has created treatment programs and provided counseling services for community corrections, state and federal adult probation, alternative probation, drug court, and county jails in both Texas and Tennessee. He has taught in higher education in graduate and undergraduate Psychology programs. He worked with the State of Texas Health and Human Services as a member of Disaster Behavioral Health Services, COVID-19 Crisis Counseling and Training Program. He is currently the S.T.A.T.E. Training Coordinator for Texas HHS Disaster Behavioral Health Coordination.
